Cheerleading shoes are not like any other shoes. Some shoes, such as delicate little pumps or chunky high heels are simply what they are. You do not have to think much about buying them – or wearing them for that matter. Cheerleading shoes are a whole different ball game. They must be highly functional; your very health could depend on the suitability of your cheer shoe. Choosing the correct cheerleading shoe can help you to avoid injury especially in tumble or stunt moves. Plus cheerleading shoes must be pretty and if possible have color options so the squad’s shoes all match one another, creating a consistent look.
Attention to detail makes champions, so you want to pay attention to every aspect of the cheer shoe you choose. At the very least your cheer shoes need to be such that do not cause you discomfort and pain. Aching feet are the very antithesis of what it means to be a bouncing, lively and positive cheerleader. Cheer shoes should be well-fitting and generously cushioned. Take into account that you will be jumping and stunting for hours at a stretch. Not only do your cheer shoes need to take the strain but they need to protect your feet from stress, heat and damage. That is asking quite a lot of any shoe but you dare not let your cheer shoes be anything less than 100% perfect for their purpose. Take note of the following when choosing cheerleading shoes and you will not go far wrong.
Support and cushion. Find out what has been incorporated into the shoe to ensure that it offers maximum support and cushion. There are usually diagrams available in store or on line illustrating how the shoe is constructed. Certain makes, such as Kaepa, have different styles for different moves. Thus there will be a stunt shoe, one suitable for tumbling and a dance shoe.
Weight. A proper cheer shoe will be light as possible and properly ventilated. They will look light and pleasant too. Clunky cheer shoes are out!
Fit. If you can try on a sample of the shoe, that would be great. Most likely you have seen other cheerleaders’ shoes and that is what has led you to investigate the different types of shoe. Take a close look at them and try them for size so when buying online you will know you have ordered the correct item. Follow your instinct. Some shoes just look and feel right for you.
I personally love my Kaepa Aerial 6352 shoes. They were not too expensive and yet have a terrific range of technical characteristics for the type of cheerleading I do (tumbling). When I first saw them online they did not look as light as other styles but I realized that this was because they had special features, such as the high abrasion toe caps for added toughness and a tumble toe for ease of tumbling. In fact they are as light (I would almost say as weightless!) as any other good cheerleading shoes I have encountered. The profile was higher than most other cheer shoes, I noticed. Again I learned that this was for extra ankle support. Also the sole appeared a bit chunky. I soon realized that the so-called Finger Grooves were for added stunt control. They go from heel to toe for the ultimate gripping surface. Stunt control was also the reason for the presence of the scalloped arch and rear finger notch.
Apart from these terrific features, the Kaepa Aerial 6352 cheer shoes have an embarrassingly long list of additional features that come as standard. They have no less than 120 color combinations possible in each box and a removable insole for comfort and shock absorption. Then there is the Antimicrobial Agion lining which is treated to prevent odor and kill bacteria. A lot of attention is paid to cushioning. The Kaepa Aerial is constructed from APX, an extreme absorption polymer that is used for the midsole compound, allowing the absorption of impact forces and which resists compression.
Because they were really reasonably priced I bought two pairs of Kaepa Aerial 6352 shoes, one for practice and one for competition, and I haven’t looked back! They have lasted well and maintained the strength, profile and good looks. They are also easy to clean and look very business-like, which suits my personality and the task the shoe has to do. My cheer shoes are central to my uniform and quite a few girls have followed my lead and bought Kaepa cheer shoes. I love cheerleading, and I certainly love my cheerleading shoes.
