Why is this better for your client? Well, when circulation increases, clients not only feel revived but they may also have an easier time dealing with pain or fatigue. When blood flow slows down, the healing process becomes more efficient. This is especially the case for clients suffering from edema or other conditions where swelling is a problem.

So, if massage stones are so powerful, why aren’t more massage therapists using them for their full-body massages? It’s mainly because they are not promoted as much in the Western world. Plus, there’s the perception that since they deviate from the ‘traditional’ the technique, they must be harder to learn. This is not really true. Yes, you will need a little bit of training before using the stones in a hot stone massage, but most of what you have learned from massage therapy school can be applied to hot stone therapy. Walk into any party supplies store and you’ll probably find aisle after aisle of decorations for a baby shower in your choice of pink, blue or something neutral like yellow or green. If you find yourself in the position to be giving a baby shower, think beyond the typical party decorations. To make a baby shower really stand out in people’s minds, give it a theme and carry that theme throughout every detail of the shower.

I can already hear somebody saying "But I’m not very creative". Guess what? You don’t have to be! Creativity is not one of my strong suits either, but I managed to give what I believe was an unforgettable baby shower for my cousin Eileen. I gave her a ‘Bring a Book to Baby’ shower.

You see, this was her second baby and Ryan was only three so she still had a lot of his baby clothes as well as ton of baby toys. She’d kept his highchair and infant seat and a lot of other baby accessories, so it would have been a bit harder to come up with gift ideas that she didn’t already have.

So I turned to the Internet for ideas. When I found the theme idea of having each guest bring a book for the baby, I loved it and thought it was absolutely the perfect solution. It was a huge hit with everyone! When baby brother arrived, he already had a small library of books to share with his big brother Ryan.

My sister Jen used her computer to make invitations that looked like little nursery rhyme books. She went with me to shop for party supplies and we found plates and napkins with books on them. I think they were for college graduation or something, because some of them looked like textbooks, but I bought them anyway and they worked out just fine.

My neighbor agreed to make the cake for me…and are you ready for this? It was shaped like a stack of books! I loved it and so did everyone else. I didn’t spend a lot on the party decorations. We knew it was going to be a boy so I used the color blue for balloons and crepe paper ribbons and the tablecloth. In keeping with the theme, we gave bookmarks to the guests as baby shower favors.

My whole point in sharing this with you is to encourage you not to let a lack of imagination on your part keep you from giving the most unforgettable baby shower ever. The Internet is a treasure trove of ideas for baby showers and a valuable resource for finding unique baby shower party favors.

Medieval Swords – A Taste of History

Medieval weapons started with a basic club and has evolved for centuries. As the need for better protection came apparent, so did the need for better weaponry. The most significant advancements in weapons was (and still is today) during times of war.

The first major breakthrough in medieval weapons was the crossbow. A finely tuned and complex crossbow could launch an arrow at unheard of speeds and force. In medieval times this was the modern day version of a sniper rifle. It was fast and silent and ten times more deadly than a standard bow and arrow. The barbarian club eventually evolved to the mace or flail and even though its simplistic design did not fall far from its club counterpart, the damage done by a medieval mace was immense. If death did not come from the strike of a mace, you would have wished it did. The shear destruction from the strike of a mace would leave disfiguring scars, torn flesh and shattered bones. The biggest breakthrough for medieval weapons was the creation of the sword. Even today, many enthusiasts deem the sword a symbol of courage and prestige and a natural part of our history. The first swords were made from crude bits of copper and bronze and they were not sharp. In the Middle Ages, medieval swords were sharpened and the introduction of steel made these weapons a perfect killing instrument. As time passed, so did the evolution of the sword. New materials were used to make the blades sharper and jewels were added to the hilt for personal flair or honor.

The best concept ever created by sword makers was the blood groove down the blades. In battle, swords plunged into another man’s flesh would create a vacuum around the blade that would make it almost impossible to remove. In melee battle, this was a hinderance and could cost someone their life if they were not able to recover their sword fast enough for the next attack. By adding the blood grove to the blades, warriors were able to quickly retreive their broadswords and prepare themselves for the next opponent.

Medieval weapons have come a long way since the Middle Ages but we have probably yet to see what’s in store for the future. Regardless, medieval swords and weaponry are classic and perfect for display, re-enactment or stage use and can be seen all across the world at Renaissance Faires and conventions alike.
